LAHORE: Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid on Tuesday said that all nursing schools in Punjab would be upgraded to degree colleges instead of diplomas.
“Nurses will now have the facility to do master’s and PhD programs,” the health minister said. He added that no government has done anything for the development of nurses. Student capacity has been increased from 1,600 to 2,350, with two midwifery schools upgraded to college status.
Dr. Rashid said that the incoming government has recruited 500 nurses and it intends to increase the monthly stipend from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 31,000. In addition, Shahdara Nursing College will now train only nurses.
