With AirPods Pro 3, Apple sounds like it’s following a winning playbook

AirPods Pro 3 are almost here, and rumors indicate Apple plans to follow the highly successful proven playbook of AirPods Pro 2. Here’s what that means.

AirPods Pro 3’s rumored upgrades follow the path set by AirPods Pro 2

Apple launched AirPods Pro 2 three years ago, and has continually improved them ever since.

AirPods Pro 2 have improved upon Apple’s original model in several key ways:

  • H2 chip enabled more powerful audio features
  • Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) got a big upgrade
  • Health-focused features debuted
  • and firmware updates brought regular improvements

Rumors indicate that the forthcoming AirPods Pro 3 will focus on upgrades that follow this proven path.

The new H3 chip, for example, is expected to be the foundation for new audio capabilities.

One such rumored upgrade is an even more powerful noise cancellation feature, but that’s likely just one part of the H3’s story.

Joining existing Hearing Health features, AirPods Pro 3 will reportedly add heart rate monitoring and possibly temperature sensing too.

Among the many reasons I love my AirPods Pro 2, I’ve been impressed by the number of meaningful new features Apple has added via firmware updates.

We’re all accustomed to iPhones, iPads, and Macs getting new software features all the time, but with AirPods Pro 2, Apple has now normalized the same level of software evolution for earbuds.

Rumors already indicate a major AirPods Pro 3 feature might arrive via a future firmware update, and I have no doubt the new earbuds will pack a host of new capabilities in the years after launch.

AirPods Pro 2 have been a big success story for Apple, and it sounds like that winning formula will continue being used for the next-gen AirPods Pro 3.
