Vogue classmates rally for student who lost mother and grandmother in head-on crash near Shelley

IDAHO FALLS — After a series of heartbreaking losses, classmates at Vogue Beauty College and Salon in Idaho Falls are rallying around fellow student 20-year-old Kaydee Burnside after a tragic car crash earlier this month.

On April 2, Burnside’s mother, 43-year-old Tammy K. Richeson, and grandmother, 66-year-old Barbara K. Rutherford, both of Idaho Falls, were killed in a head-on collision on U.S. Highway 91 near Shelley. The driver of the other vehicle, 68-year-old Queta Tolman of Idaho Falls, succumbed to her injuries the next day, according to Idaho State Police.

To help ease the burden, Vogue Beauty College is hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, May 3. The event will include a sidewalk sale, bake sale, and raffle from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Johnson Brothers parking lot, located next to the college at 233 Basalt Street.

“Earlier this year and last year, Kaydee also lost her father and grandfather,” said Kenadee Marlow, a friend and fellow Vogue classmate helping to organize the fundraiser. “We’re hoping to get the word out to the community and encourage everyone to support (Kaydee) through this difficult time.”

Many local businesses have already donated gift baskets and gift cards for the raffle, and the college is still accepting donations of baked goods and other items leading up to the event.

Some of the businesses that have donated gift baskets and gift cards include Poppy & Pout, Snakebite, Carstens ‘ Bakery, Glow Hair Co., Manwaring Cheese, and Bejeweled Creations.

All proceeds will go directly to help Burnside with essentials like food, housing, and other living expenses.

Beauty school students will be at the event to do face painting and hair tinsel.

Despite her tremendous loss, Burnside continues showing strength and resilience, balancing her education while caring for Logan.

“She’s taking things one day at a time,” said Marlow. “She has a quiet confidence about her. She’s back in school, doing her best, and handling everything with a ton of grace.”

Organizers say the fundraiser is an opportunity for the community to show its support and remind Kaydee and Logan they are not alone.

“Saturday is also the kick-off of the Idaho Falls Farmers Market, so we hope there are a lot of people out and about since it’s close by,” added Marlow.

Raffle tickets can be purchased at the event or by stopping by Vogue Beauty College at 247 Cliff Street. Those interested in donating items can stop by the fundraiser early Saturday morning or contact Vogue owner Hallie Kane at (205) 523-2520 for more information.
