The Queen of Versailles, the Broadway musical that is starting just its third week at the St. James Theatre, will play its final performance January 4, 2026.
The show opened November 9 and to date has grossed $5,566,554 from nine performances and 32 previews.
Queen of Versailles‘ cast is led by Kristin Chenoweth and F. Murray Abraham, with music and lyrics by Oscar winner Stephen Schwartz and a book by Lindsey Ferrentino. Tony winner Michael Arden directed. This project reteamed Chenoweth with Schwartz on Broadway for the first time since Wicked premiered in 2003.
The story is based on Lauren Greenfield’s 2012 documentary The Queen of Versailles, which captured the story of Jackie and David Siegel, billionaires who were attempting to build a lavish home in Florida inspired by Palace of Versailles while seeing their fortunes and lifestyle decline thanks to the 2008 financial crisis.
Greenfield won the Directing Award at Sundance for the doc, which grossed nearly $2.5 million in global box office via Magnolia Pictures.
In its pre-Broadway incarnation, the musical Queen of Versailles saw record-breaking box office for its world premiere at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre in July 2024 before landing a spot at the St. James.
