ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser on Monday said that the end of the Afghan peace process would lead to an era of peace and prosperity in Afghanistan and the region.

“Pakistan is steadfast in its support for a comprehensive and political solution to the Afghan conflict,” he told Hizb-e-Wahdat-e-Islami Afghanistan Chairman Muhammad Karim Khalili, who called on him here with a delegation. .

Pak-Afghan relations, the political situation in the region and issues of mutual interest were discussed. Mohammad Karim Khalili’s visit is part of Pakistan’s ongoing policy to build a common understanding on the Afghan peace process and further strengthen people-to-people ties with the political leadership in Afghanistan.

“Pakistan wants a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan, which is in the best interests of the entire region,” Assad said.

Referring to the steps taken by the parliament and the executive, Asad said that the Pak-Afghanistan Parliamentary Friendship Group in the National Assembly had sent recommendations to remove obstacles to strengthening bilateral relations and trade.

Khalili praised Pakistan’s efforts to bring peace to Afghanistan. He said his country was grateful to Pakistan for the long-term hospitality of Afghan refugees. He agreed that the involvement of all parties is essential for lasting peace in Afghanistan.
