“We came here to file a reference but the ECP was closed for the day. We will present [the reference] This morning, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said in a media briefing from outside the ECP office.
The Minister said, “I hope the Chief Election Commissioner will take notice of the video. That is why we were saying that the decision of the Supreme Court gives the ECP an opportunity to play its role in making the Senate elections in Pakistan transparent.” ۔ “
He added, “The Supreme Court has clearly directed the ECP to use technology to eradicate horse trading in the Senate elections. It is very unfortunate that the Election Commission has decided not to change this method this time.” What
Fawad Chaudhry said the video “disproves the ECP’s view”.
“It may not be this time that fraud, corruption, the horse trade and money laundering will not be allowed, but we will stop it next time. It was a very weak argument and the video proved it,” he said.
The science minister claimed that government candidate Abdul Hafeez Sheikh was “ahead of the vote” this time. “Gilani is not there when it comes to votes. Hafeez Sheikh is far ahead,” he said.
He said, however, that the government’s efforts could not stop the deliberations on the vote. “It is about enforcing the law. And for that, the ECP has to fulfill its obligations under Articles 218 and 220 (of the Constitution),” he said.
Chaudhry said that after Ali Haider Gilani’s “entry”, Yousuf Raza Gilani would have to be barred from contesting the elections.
