KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalawani on Sunday visited YMCA to inspect the construction and installation work of grill for boundary wall.
The city administration has removed illegal marriage halls / halls and other encroachments from the YMCA on the direction of the Supreme Court.
While inspecting the construction work, the commissioner directed the officials to complete the work within a month. He added, “This place has provided opportunities to the youth of the city as it has trained many hockey players like Sohail Abbas, Shahid Ali Khan, Mansoor Ahmed, Kamran Ashraf.”
He said the city administration would play its role in reviving sports activities at the YMCA as soon as possible.
The Commissioner was briefed on the reconstruction work with the help of maps.
Along with the track, underground water tanks and an 8-10 foot jogging track will be built along with planting trees.
Arrangements are being made for the match between Quaid-e-Azam Hockey XI and Quaid-e-Millat Hockey XI on December 25 in collaboration with Karachi Hockey Association.
Deputy Commissioner South Irshad Ali, YMCA Sports Secretary Babar Pal and Project Director Ghulam Sarwar Chachar were also present on the occasion.
The Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioner South to liaise with the YMCA so that all possible assistance could be provided to it.
