ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja on Friday said that CEC meetings with politicians are part of the electoral business, as political parties and MPs are important stakeholders in the election process, and the Election Commission Open to political parties.
Talking to The News here, the CEC said that Saifullah Niazi had complained that some voters were registering in the electoral rolls with a permanent and temporary address with a third address. He said that the Election Commission would look into the matter. Secondly, he said, Niazi had complained of violating the code of conduct of other parties in the by-elections.
“We have made it clear that the Election Commission is a completely impartial and independent body. The Chief Election Commissioner said that representatives of PPP, PML-N and PTI and other parties are often in touch with the Election Commission.
In recent days, he said, he had met PML-N MNA Dr Nisar Cheema, who had gone to the Election Commission regarding the by-elections. He said that the Election Commission also followed the messages of PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal. “The job of the Election Commission is to unite with politicians,” he said. “We have nothing to do with the work of the scrutiny committee. The CEC clarified that we will see when the report comes.
