ISLAMABAD: Exports of textile items have increased by 7.7 per cent during the first half of the current financial year as compared to the same period last year.
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), textile exports during July-December (2020-21) were recorded at 7. 7.4 billion as against ڈالر 6.9 billion in July-December (2019-20).
Textile commodities that contributed to the increase in positive trade included nutware, whose exports increased from 1.5 1.5 billion to 1. 1.8 billion this year, an increase of 16.5%.
Similarly, bedding exports increased by 16.3 percent to 1. 1.3 billion from 1. 1.1 billion, while towel exports increased by 17.4 percent to 9 379 million $ 445 million.
Exports of tents, canvas and tarpaulin increased by 57.7 per cent to 39 39 million from 39 39 million, while exports of readymade garments increased by 5.5 per cent to 4 1.4 billion to 4 1.4 billion and exports of art, silk and synthetic textiles to 16 167 million. Exports of manufactured articles (excluding towels and bedding) rose 17.4%. Increased from 2 322 million to 9 379 million.

Meanwhile, on a year-on-year basis, textile exports increased by 22.7% during the month of December 2020 as compared to the same month last year.
During December 2020, exports were recorded at 4 1.4 billion compared to 1.1 billion.
On a monthly basis, exports from the country increased by 9.2% during December 2020, compared to 2020 1.2 billion in November 2020.
The country’s trade exports increased by 4.9% during the first half of the current financial year (2020-21) as compared to the same period last year. According to the latest PBS data, total exports from the country were recorded at ریکارڈ 12 billion during July-December, compared to 11 11 billion during July-December (2019-20).
During the period under review, the country’s imports also increased from 23 23.1 billion last year to 7 5.7 billion in the first half of this fiscal year.
Based on the data, the country’s trade deficit increased by 6.4% in the first half of the year compared to the same period last year. The trade deficit for the first six months of the current fiscal year was recorded at 12 12.4 billion as against 11 11.6 billion last year.
