The clip from Death Stranding 2 shows a pair of characters, Neil and Lucy, meeting for the first time in awhile.

We first met them during SxSW.

Kojima says they’re both important characters with a deep connection. He compared Neil to Mads Mikkelson’s character from Death Stranding 1.

And we’re off!

Summer Game Fest has just begun. Let’s see what Geoff Keighley has in store for us.

30 minutes to go…

Summer Game Fest

We’re 30 minutes away from kick off. As a reminder, here’s when the show starts, plus showcases that will follow:

Summer Game Fest Showcase: 5pm ET/ 2pm PT / 10pm BST

Day of the Devs: Summer Game Fest Edition: 7pm ET / 4pm PT / 12am BST

IOI Showcase: 9pm ET / 6pm PT / 2am BST

Resident Evil 9?

Resident Evil 4

Capcom is another major partner for Summer Games Fest and likely has a few things to share.

I’m betting we get a look at new Street Fighter 6 characters alongside longer looks at Pragmata and Onimusha: Way of the Sword both of which were highlight during Sony’s State of Play this week.

But, I’m hoping for a Resident Evil 9 reveal, nothing has leaked hinting that it’s coming but it’s not unlikely.

There hasn’t been a new Resident Evil for a few years, not counting the multiple remakes up through RE: 4 that came out in 2023.

So it’s time for some more Umbrella Corp.

Something new from Square Enix

final fantasy viii: remastered

Square Enix is a partner at Summer Games Fest and are likely to share something during the gaming showcase.

We assume the company is not just highlighting the new Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy set.

Square Enix did just surprise a Final Fantasy Tactics rerelease for PS4 and PS5, I expect it’ll come out elsewhere and maybe we’ll get more info at SGF.

Perhaps more Final Fantasy as well.

Halo to PS5?

Halo Infinite

So look, I know that Microsoft has been busy porting Xbox games over to PS5. But I highly doubt that you’ll hear anything about that at the Xbox Games Showcase. The company’s main focus is going to be screaming “look at what you can play on Game Pass” at the top of its lungs.

However, that doesn’t mean you won’t see at least something about this mission the company’s on, and my spider sense is tingling about the biggest of Microsoft’s first party games – Halo.

Halo Infinite may not have been a great shooter on launch, but a relentless update cycle has finally brought it into being a whole lot of fun (especially the multiplayer). But just as the attention cycle goes in gaming nowadays, if it’s not at its best within a few months, people just move onto the next thing.

So a launch on PS5 would be significant in bringing more players back to the server! The sooner, the better I say.

What about the Valve VR headset?

A photo of the Valve index VR headset

Given how many leaks we’ve seen, Valve’s next generation VR headset – codenamed Deckard – has been a pretty poorly-kept secret. It looks set to be both a standalone wireless headset that is basically a Steam Deck you wear on your face, while also having the connectivity to be a top notch PC VR setup.

But what is intriguing is that Valve has been on a Tariff-dodging mission to bring a lot of its manufacturing over to the U.S. Now that the equipment is reportedly here and manufacturing may be underway, all eyes are on a Fall 2025 launch.

That would make Summer Games Fest a really good time to let us know about this new headset. Given the reported $1,200 price tag, I need to save up! Either that or please just finally give us Half-Life 3.

Death Stranding 2 — the next hit iPhone game?

Death Stranding on iPhone

There’s a buzz in the air because everyone’s favorite gaming maestro Hideo Kojima is going to give the world a look at Death Stranding 2 at SGF 2025.

The Death Stranding 2: On the Beach game premiere will take place on June 8 at 7pm PT / 10pm ET / 3am BST at an in-person event at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. Don’t worry if you’re not on the invite list, though, as it’ll be livestreamed on YouTube.

Tech fans will surely know that next week is also WWDC with Apple expected to talk up gaming on the iPhone in a big way. Could we see Death Stranding 2 making its way to iOS in the future? It’s certainly a possibility.

Are we going to see the Asus ROG Ally 2?

Asus ROG Ally

So if one thing is clear from the time I was at Computex 2025, it was the gaming handheld void at Asus. We’d seen all the leaks and rumors of the Asus ROG Ally 2. But nothing materialized and in its place, the AMD-fueled MSI Claw AE8 stole the show.

As far as I understand, after talking to a few people (who wish to remain anonymous), the call was made to announce it “next month.” Well, the next month is now, and given it’s an Xbox-partnered handheld, two options come to mind: the Xbox Games Showcase or here at Summer Games Fest.

Given how Microsoft loves its showcase to be a banger-after-banger games event, and SGF has never shied away from giving us some hardware announcements, I am putting on my gambling hat and betting we see more of Asus’ handheld today.

Now that the Nintendo Switch 2 is out in the wild, let’s see what the Asus x Microsoft marriage has cooked up.

The party doesn’t stop at Summer Game Fest

This is going to be a busy weekend of game announcements and special events! One that is looking rather tasty is the PC Gaming Show.

With over 70 game trailers confirmed for the show, you’re sure to find out about a whole lot more games to add to your ever-growing Steam library… I swear I’m trying to keep up, but the watchful eye of Valve is judging how many titles have gone unplayed so far!

Anyway, my guilt aside, here’s a quick guide on how to watch the show and what to expect.

IOI Showcase time and date

Watch On

If the prospect of James Bond has got you shaken and stirred, then you’re going to want to tune into the IOI Showcase on June 6 that will hopefully feature a gameplay demo.

We’re also going to see lots more of IO Interactive’s other upcoming games, HITMAN World of Assassination and MindsEye.

  • IOI Showcase: 9pm ET / 6pm PT / 2am BST

Hakan Abrak, CEO at IO Interactive said: “IOI SHOWCASE celebrates our 25-year history with the HITMAN franchise and shares an in-depth look at the diverse future of our studio.

“We’ve prepared some truly exciting surprises.”

The name’s Bond…

Watch On

Hitman developer IO Interactive has been working on its new 007 game for awhile now but yesterday the team opened up and gave us a full announcement trailer for Bond’s upcoming adventure.

The reveal was part of Sony’s State of Play showcase, so we saw 007 First Light running on PS5 Pro at 60fps in Quality mode. What we don’t know is how our 26-year-old hero (yes, this is an origin story) will fare on the base PS5 or, indeed, the Nintendo Switch 2.

Hopefully we’ll have answers to those questions this week. And we can discuss them in the cocktail lounge over a couple of vodka martinis…

What about PlayStation?

State of Play | June 4, 2025 [English] - YouTube

Watch On

OK, so let me preface this by saying we just had a State of Play (you can watch the full thing above). It’s highly unlikely that Sony brings anything to Summer Games Fest.

But that’s not to say it’s never happened. But it’s even been reserved for first-party remasters (The Last of Us Part I appeared at SGF 2022), third-party exclusive reveals (Final Fantasy VII Rebirth at SGF 2023) or smaller indie exclusives.

So we could see more on the indie games that were announced at the show? Or Sony could lose its mind and show us a remastered Bloodborne… That could be huffing a whole lot of copium!

The Witcher 4, could we see more gameplay?

The Witcher 4 — Unreal Engine 5 Tech Demo – YouTube

Watch On

CD Projekt Red has already blown us away with the quality of Cyberpunk 2077 on the Nintendo Switch 2 but what about the company’s hallmark franchise?

We’ve already seen an Unreal Engine 5 tech demo for The Witcher 4 (which looked jaw-dropping), but the company could make a big mark on SGF 2025 by giving us more of a gameplay reveal. We’ll see.

Nintendo Switch 2 — even more games

A Nintendo Switch 2 handheld console

The dust hasn’t even settled on the Switch 2’s global release yesterday (by the way, we’re tracking all the Nintendo Switch 2 restocks live), we’re already into the Summer Game Fest. I’m expecting plenty of announcements regarding Nintendo’s new console from third-party studios.

I know a lot of people will be interested to learn more about Hollow Knight: Silksong after that sneak peek during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct livestream. Wow, that feels like a long time ago now…

Sumer Game Fest Showcase — what are the times?

The day has arrived and the showcase is going to kick off in just a few hours from now. The key times you need to know about for the opening show is right here:

Xbox Game Showcase: What games could we see?

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

Many of us may be tuning into the Xbox Game Showcase to hear about the rumored handheld hardware, but let’s not forget the games either. Microsoft could give us more details about Gears of War: Reloaded and possibly some news — maybe a release date — for Forza Horizon 6.

Personally, I want to hear about any DLC for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle which, for my money, has been the best original Xbox game in a good long while.

Welcome!

James Bond First Light teaser image

Welcome to our Summer Game Fest 2025 live blog! What are we expecting from this year’s event? In short, a lot.

Sony has already pulled the trigger with its State of Play 2025 livestream earlier this week revealing the likes of 007 First Light, Silent Hill f and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.

On the PC front we may see updates on titles like The Witcher 4 and maybe even a snifter of Resident Evil 9 (unlikely) from Capcom.

We could also get some details on the rumored Xbox handheld collaboration between Asus and Microsoft. It’s unlikely to take the wind out of Nintendo’s sails, as there will surely be a heap of Switch 2 announcements from game studios too.
