The Golden Globes are moving full steam – at least for now.
On Tuesday, the Foreign Press Association of Hollywood announced that Oscar-winning filmmaker Spike Lee’s children Sachal and Jackson Lee would serve as Golden Globe ambassadors at next month’s event. Hosted by Tina Fei and Amy Poehler, the show will air live on February 28 (NBC, 8 EST / 5 PST) from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
The recording comes a week after the Academy’s announcement that it would postpone the Grammy Awards from January 31 to March 14 due to growing cases of COVID-19 in California.
Nominations for this year’s Golden Globe will be announced on February 3.
Sachel, 26, and Jackson, 23, are the children of “Da 5 Bloods” director and his wife, producer Tonia Lewis Lee, who married in 1993. They are the first siblings of color to be named Globe Ambassador. Jackson is the first black man’s ambassador.
Spike Lee: The movie icon talks about ‘Da 5 Bloods’, Drew Breeze, defaming the police and much more.
An ambassador is traditionally the child of a celebrity who helps present awards, presents trophies to the winners and takes them off stage.
Ambassadors also work to raise awareness of a humanitarian cause. Sachel is partnering with Colin Lorde, an organization that supports LGBT Quia + communities in New York City, while Jackson is partnering with the Big Brothers Big Sisters, a volunteer-assisted mentoring network.
“We are proud to draw the attention of the parties to the fact that we hold the legacy of our father’s story close to our hearts,” Sachel said in a statement.
Jackson added: “As a creative visionary, my father taught me the importance of entertainment as a cultural catalyst for change and floating.”
Past ambassadors include Dylan and Paris Brosnan, sons of Pierce Brosnan, Ian Elba, daughter of Idris Elba, and Simon Garcia, daughter of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Monday’s awards season began with the Gautam Awards, where “Nodeland” took home the best feature of the house in a hybrid virtual event with no presenters other than the audience on New York’s Sepriani Wall Street.
