The Annual Special Olympics Torch Run took place Tuesday afternoon.
This is a statewide event that takes place ahead of the Special Olympics that will be held in early June.
Several law enforcement agencies participated in the torch run including Idaho State Police, Pocatello Police, Idaho Falls Police and Bonneville County Sheriffs Office.
The run began at the Waterfront Event Center and continued down Sunnyside Road and concluded at Teton Toyota.
A torch was lit at the starting line and carried to the finish line.
Mike Fitch with the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Idaho says other law enforcement agencies across Idaho are participating in this event.
“We’re a fund raising and awareness piece for Special Olympics. So, it’s just an annual thing. They do it all around the world. We just sent an ISP trooper to Italy for Winter Games, International Winter Games. So, he ran the torch through Italy. So, it’s all over the world. So, every state and country region prior to their summer games, prior to their games will run the torch.”
The Idaho Special Olympics Summer Games will take place Friday June 6th and Saturday June 7th in Nampa Idaho.
