Seth Rogen presented at the 2025 Breakthrough Prize ceremony and joked about Donald Trump, but the remark was edited out following the live stream.
The star of Apple TV+’s The Studio presented the Special Breakthrough Prize in Physics alongside Edward Norton and took a jab at the tech bros who supported Trump in his reelection.
Rogen’s pointed remarks made a big impression during the ceremony, with one attendee telling Deadline late last week that many in the room were wondering whether the jabs would be cut from the telecast, whose release was delayed by a week.
The organization ended up cutting out Rogen’s quip from the ceremony.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, which sponsored the event, Rogen said, “It’s amazing that others in this room underwrote electing a man who, in the last week, single-handedly destroyed all of American science. It’s amazing how much good science you can destroy with $320 million and RFK Jr., very fast.”
Rogen has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration and Republicans. In a recent interview for Esquire, the actor shared why he thinks Trump won the presidential election.
“I personally try not to go too dark on all of it and think like, Oh, are we on the precipice of global societal collapse? Since the end of the Civil War, America’s remained a very divided country in a lot of ways.”
He continued, “People get sick of seeing f***ing hippies doing acid and f***ing on their lawns, and they’re like, Let’s f***ing clean up these streets a little bit. And then people get sick of seeing f***ing dorks cleaning up the streets and they go back the other way. That’s not to say it doesn’t have very real and troubling ramifications on many people’s lives, but I try to maintain hope that the ball will roll onwards, even though it might be wobbling back and forth.”
