Riyadh: Saudi Arabia on Saturday blocked a “hostile target” on Riyadh, saying the country’s state media, which has been the target of repeated attacks by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen since 2015.
An explosion was heard in the Saudi capital at 11:00 a.m. (0800 GMT), according to AFP. “I heard a loud noise and thought something had fallen from the sky,” said a resident of Riyadh’s Sulaymaniyah district. “The whole house was shaking.”
The Saudi-led coalition, which backs Yemen’s internationally recognized government against the Houthis, said it had intercepted and destroyed an air target en route to Riyadh.
