The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has recently announced that it will take steps to curb spam and immovable calls and messages.
In an official notification, the PTA said “unwanted calls and messages can be interrupted but people can take steps to reduce these measures.”
Blocking telemarketing communications
Those who do not wish to receive telemarketing related messages can register their number on PTA’s Do Call Call Register (DNCR).
All they have to do is type ‘ridge’ and send an SMS to 3627.
The notification added that if the issue persists, users can contact their respective service providers.
Those who want to receive telemarketing communication messages again can type ‘ungreg’ and send a message to 3627.
Block spamming / immovable communication
People who want to block spam or immovable communications can type in the spammer’s cell number, place it, paste the received message and send an SMS to 9000.
Block offensive / unknown calls and messages
Users who are fed up with annoying and unknown calls and messages can now stop them by dialing * 420 # (for Jazz, Telenor and Ufone users)) or 420 (for Zong users).
Do not share personal information
PTA also advises users not to provide their personal information, such as account numbers, passwords, or any other information in response to unknown or unexpected calls and SMS.
