Gilgit: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers on Monday protested against the unofficial and unconfirmed results of Gilgit-Baltistan A2, Gilgit-2 constituency, according to Geo News.

DIG Waqas Ahmed said that PPP workers had termed the polling results as rigged and staged a protest against it.

Violence erupted when protesters set fire to a government building and four vehicles after clashes with police officers.

According to the DIG, an estimated 20-25 people were involved in terrorism and there were reports of clashes with police at River View Road and various other places.

However, additional police officers have been called in due to the tense situation.

Meanwhile, PPP leader from Gilgit-Baltistan Sadia Danish criticized the Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit and accused him of hiding the results of Constituency-2.

He said that it looks like the Gilgit Election Commissioner is a PTI worker. He warned that his behavior would worsen the law and order situation in the area.

It may be recalled that at the request of the PPP candidate, counting of votes is underway at all 52 polling stations in another constituency of GBA-21, Guzar-3.
