Pocatello, Idaho – Gardeners across eastern Idaho should brace for an early-season cold snap, as temperatures drop to 27°F overnight, triggering a frost advisory for the Snake River Plain and surrounding regions.
According to the National Weather Service in Pocatello, the advisory runs from midnight Tuesday through 10 a.m. Wednesday. Cities including Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, and Burley are at risk for frost formation, which could damage or kill sensitive plants if not protected.
Strong winds are also a concern Tuesday evening, particularly over American Falls Reservoir, where gusts up to 40 mph have prompted a Lake Wind Advisory through 8 p.m. Rough waves may create hazardous conditions for small boats.
The frost advisory spans the Lower and Upper Snake River Plain, Eastern Magic Valley, Shoshone-Lava Beds, and even Craters of the Moon National Monument. Residents are urged to cover or bring in tender vegetation and secure loose outdoor items.
This late-May chill follows a stretch of unusually mild spring weather across the region. More frost advisories could follow if the pattern persists into the weekend.
