PML-N leader Muftah Ismail in a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner has requested for recount of votes for the by-election of NA-249 to be held on April 29 in Karachi.
The PPP won the NA-249 by-election with unofficial, provisional results, with the final count showing a close contest between the PML-N and the PPP. However, the PML-N had rejected the PPP’s victory.
Ismail wrote the letter on Saturday. In it, he said the presiding officers of 34 polling stations did not WhatsApp the results.
“We have not received results from more than 30 polling stations. We have serious concerns about the conduct of some presiding officers,” Ismail wrote.
The PML-N leader lamented that the counting of votes on Form 45 was different from the forms given by the RO. “We have not been provided Form 45 by the RO,” he said.
He said in the letter that the RO did not provide a summary of the results as per the polling stations.
Ismail has demanded that the CEC stop the ECP from finalizing the results and count the votes in all the polling stations of NA-249.
He also said that the RO had shown clear bias in rejecting all his requests as more than half of the Form 45 forms were not signed by the RO.
