Photos needed for ‘Our Idaho Heritage’ exhibit coming to Idaho Falls

IDAHO FALLS — Area residents are asked to submit photos and short stories about how their family first came to Idaho in preparation for the “Our Idaho Heritage” exhibit that will be open during the month of July at the Idaho Falls FamilySearch Center.

“This could be a story about yourself if you were the first person in your family to come to Idaho, or it could be about an ancestor who came here several generations ago,” said Bob Comstock, co-director of the center. “The exhibit will be open to the public during July, a month when we traditionally celebrate the founding of our country, as well as the pioneers who settled the West.”

To submit a photo and story, email a high-resolution file to IdahoFallsFamilySearchCenter@gmail.com. The information about the photo should be about 100 words long and describe who is in the photo, their relationship to you, and why and when this person or family first came to Idaho.

You can also bring your photo to the center where a volunteer will digitize it while you wait. The center is open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The deadline to submit photos and stories is Friday, June 20. For more information, contact Don Sparhawk, coordinator of the project, at (208) 356-6781.

The free exhibit will be open from July 7 to 31 at the center, located at 750 West Elva Street in Idaho Falls.
