Perfect Parries may require direction input to get screen freeze in Season 3 of Street Fighter 6

Following up on yesterday’s reports of the changes to Street Fighter 6’s Perfect Parry mechanic, we have a bit more information on how this change may come about in Season 3 of the game, set to be released on June 5, 2025.

High and low Perfect Parries now require a joystick input of either back or down-back, respectively, to trigger a screen-freeze in the Elena build of the game that was playable at Evo Japan 2025.

As HiFight translates, to get the Perfect Parry screen freeze against high attacks, jump ins and Drive Impacts, players must hold back on the controller now. To get the same screen freeze against low attacks, players must hold down-back while doing the Parry command (Medium Punch + Medium Kick).

Currently in Street Fighter 6, Perfect Parries do not require this joystick input.

While it’s not confirmed that this change will be implemented into Season 3 of Street Fighter 6, it’s very likely that it will be considering that Elena is playable in this build of the game, and it’s likely a preview, of sorts, of what we can expect in about 25 days when the update is scheduled to be released.

How much this will impact the gameplay of Street Fighter 6 remains to be seen, but if this change sticks, it’s clear that the developers of the game want players to have even more precision to get the major rewards that the game’s Perfect Parry system offers.

There could be a number of additional changes to the system mechanics as well that we do not know about at this time, as this patch is likely going to be the largest update to the game we’ve seen to date.

Major props go out to the players who gathered and relayed this info for the fighting game community, as lines reportedly took about 50+ minutes to get through to be able to play the Elena build for a short period of time, according to DaFeetLee.
