Pakistan has been unanimously elected President of the Assembly of Parties and Chairman of the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) for a three-year term, 2021-223, a press release said on Thursday.
The United States vacated the post at the end of his three-year term. Johar Saleem, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Italy and Permanent Representative to the FAO, WFP and IFAD, will serve in dual leadership positions on behalf of Pakistan.
The elections took place at the annual conference of the IDLO Assembly of Parties. Elected Vice President with United States Italy. Other countries, including China, Turkey and Kenya, were selected for the organisation’s audit and finance committee.
With headquarters in Rome, IDLO is the only international government organization dedicated to promoting the rule of law and rights-based development in the world. It was established in 1988 and has 37 member countries, with experience working with more than 90 countries and legal systems.
