It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Shayla Rose Kirby Peterson.
Shayla passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, at The Wildflower of Rigby at the age of 73.
Shayla was born on September 13, 1951, to Boyd Calvin Kirby and Donna Rose Grover. She grew up in Great Falls, Montana as a young child and later moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho where she remained throughout her life. Shayla loved being around her siblings and made many friends throughout her teenage years. Shayla graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1969.
Shayla married Brent Dwain Peterson on October 15th, 1971, in Idaho Falls, Idaho. They built a beautiful home in Ucon and had 4 children, Shalisa, Shawn, Kristi, and Jared. Shayla and Brent’s home was always welcoming to family, friends and neighbors. We were blessed to have Beth join our family and live with us for several years, becoming a cherished part of our family.
Shayla played a vital role in starting the Potelco Credit Union Branch, later renamed as Connections Credit Union in Idaho Falls. Shayla was loved by the members of the Credit Union and knew them by name. She would go above and beyond for all members and co-workers, making everyone feel important and loved. Shayla retired as the Branch Manager of the Credit Union after working for 36 years.
Shayla was known for her warm smile and kindness to others. She had an unwavering love for family, friends, and everyone she came in contact with. Some of her favorite things were being with family, especially the grandkids, anything with the color purple, watching the hummingbirds and checking on her flowers at the cabin. She also loved going to events and activities, particularly if ice cream was involved.
Shayla was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and met many lifelong friends through the church. We believe she is in a place of peace and love, watching over us with the same caring spirit she shared during her life.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Brent Dwain Peterson, children Beth (Dee) Radford, Shalisa Hawley, Shawn (Shana) Peterson, Kristi (Jon) Nelson, Jared (Kevin) Peterson, her 2 sisters, Sandi Beckman, Shirley (Dave) Asper and brother Scott (Stacy) Kirby, 10 grandchildren Mikayla, Shay, Aly, Coltin, Cody, Luke, Nash, Traven, Zerik, and Skylee.
She was preceded in death by her parents Boyd and Donna Kirby and her beloved sister, Susan Davis.
Services will be held at the Ucon LDS Stake Center, 2967 E 105th N, Ucon, ID 83454 on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 11 AM. A viewing will be held prior to the services at the same location from 9:30-10:45 AM. A viewing will also be held on Friday, May 23, from 6-7:30 PM at Eckersell Funeral Home, 101 W Main St, Rigby, ID 83442.
