ISLAMABAD: Mubashir Ali scored a magnificent century to help South Punjab post 240 before the opening day of the national under-19 three-day tournament match against table topper Northern at the National Ground.
Mubashir revealed 100 off 163 balls and formed a crucial 163-run stand for the fifth wicket with Muhammad Faizan Zafar (86) after South Punjab were bowled out for 228.
Northern’s Osama Afridi took 19-19 while Mehran Mumtaz, Mubasir Khan and Hassan Abid Kayani took six wickets while captain Mohammad Raza Mustafa opted for bowling. Northern were 23-0 when the stumps were drawn.
At the Army Sports Ground in Rawalpindi, Hasnat Abbas scored an unbeaten century as Central Punjab struggled 349-7 in 83 overs after Sindh opted to bowl. After Hasnat, their captain Mohammad Hoorira and Sameer Saqib formed a strong 150-run stand for the second wicket. Horaira scored 80 off 137 balls. Sameer scored 94 runs against 192 deliveries. Before the end of the game, Sindh had faced seven overs and was 22-0.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bowlers Izhar Ahmed and Ahmed Khan shared seven wickets as Balochistan were bowled out for 85 in 38.2 overs at Ayub Park Ground in Rawalpindi. Izhar scored 4-32, while Ahmed scored 3-25. Balochistan’s four batsmen Bast Ali entered the double digits with a top score of 17 runs.
In reply, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa scored 121-3 in 33 overs thanks to Haseeb Khan’s unbeaten 65 off 109 balls. Muez Sadaqat stood out with 54 runs and 29 runs. Kabir Raj of Balochistan took 2-3 to 4 wickets.
