Full Story

Mrs. Marlene Haberman, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother from Bel Air, CA, passed away suddenly in a tragic car accident.

Marlene was an active member at Chabad of Bel Air, CA for over 30 years, led by Rabbi Chaim and Charna Mentz.

Her husband, known as “Frailech Melech” Melvin, Elimelech ben Aidel was also in the accident, and remains in critical condition.

She was full of life and joy, and was known as a person who could get things done. She would greet everyone with a smile, and was very warm to all she met.

She joined every women’s event and program. At the age at 50 she learned how to read Hebrew and would daven and say Tehilim every day. She loved Hashem, the Torah and the land of Israel. She would reply to the question “How are you?” with, “Of course it’s a good day, Hashem woke me up and gave me another day.”

A Mitzvah that was very dear to her was the Mitzvah of Kashrus. She had meat, dairy and pareve sinks in her kitchen, and was known to request at grocery stores that they remove products without a proper hechsher.

Marlene supported and loved JLI – the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute. She would join the yearly learning retreats and Israel programs. She was known at JLI for her nails, as she would paint the letters ‘JLI’ on them for every retreat.

Over the years, she and her husband got to know many Shluchim and appreciated their dedicated work. She also got to know Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky OBM, Vice Chairman of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch, and would call him to inquire about his health.

Her tragic passing leaves a great void among all her grieving friends at Chabad of Bel Air, as well as at Chabad of Rancho Mirage, led by Rabbi and Mrs. Posner, dear friends of hers as well near her vacation home.

She is survived by her son Chopsi Haberman and granddaughter Arielle.

Baruch Dayan Ha’emes.
