Minka Kelly wasn’t enthusiastic about Jenna Bush Hager‘s line of questioning on the Today show.
During Tuesday’s episode of the daytime talk show, the Friday Night Lights actress appeared visibly uncomfortable as the host began asking about her romance with Imagine Dragons frontman Dan Reynolds.
Hager attempted to pivot from a discussion about Kelly’s Netflix romantic comedy Champagne Problems to her real-life relationship. “Speaking about the holidays and love and this rom-com, you have a very big love in your life right now,” the host said. “Talk about your relationship, if you feel comfortable.”
She also read an excerpt from one of Kelly’s Instagram captions about Reynolds. “I think you posted this b-day message, saying, ‘He healed wounds he didn’t inflict,'” Hager said. “That’s beautiful.”

Kelly blinked dramatically and leaned backward as Hager started asking about Reynolds, and responded with a brief, vague answer. “Yeah. It is beautiful,” she said. “I feel really lucky. He’s a really good guy.”
Hager recognized the discomfort of the situation. “Okay, sounds like you don’t wanna talk about it, that’s fine,” she said. “I was like, I guess we don’t straight then go to the video of him.”
Guest co-host Olivia Munn attempted to rectify the conversation. “I love Dan,” she said, noting that she collaborated with Imagine Dragons on their 2021 music video for “Rectify.” “I did his music video, it was the first thing I did after Covid. I was actually pregnant, and no one had known yet.”
Munn added, “He was so kind. I love the whole band.”
Kelly agreed with Munn’s evaluation of the “Radioactive” group. “He’s the best,” she said. “They’re all the best.”
The actress then segued back to discussing Champagne Problems. “I think there’s something sort of similar to the movie in the theme of, you know, love sort of hits you when you least expect it,” she said. “This girl was really just focused on her career and herself. She had just gone through a divorce, and so she’s just taking care of herself. So all of a sudden, that sort of hits you when you least expect it. And I can relate to that.”
Kelly and Reynolds were first linked in 2022, and have rarely discussed their relationship publicly. However, the Titans actress expressed her appreciation for the singer earlier this year in the post that Hager invoked.

“This beautiful man has healed wounds in me he did not inflict – simply by being himself,” she wrote on Instagram. “By embodying true masculinity. The kind that is vulnerable, honest and loving.”
The actress continued, “I thought I knew kindness. Love. Patience. Generosity. Care. I thought I knew how to be gentle. And then I met him.”

Kelly also said that she admired “watching him father and love” his four children whom he shares with ex-wife Aja Volkman. She also shouted Reynolds out for “honoring and respecting their beautiful mother,” “doing everything he can to be absolutely everything everyone needs from him,” and “finding ways every day to light up the lives of the ones so lucky enough to be loved by him.”
Champagne Problems is now streaming on Netflix. Watch Kelly, Hager, and Munn’s full conversation above.
