Man charged after suspected fake navy admiral at Llandudno Remembrance event

A 64-year-old man has been charged following an investigation into a suspected fake admiral at a Remembrance Sunday event.

Jonathan Carley, from the Harlech area of Gwynedd, is accused of wearing uniform bearing the mark of His Majesty’s Forces without permission.

Images widely circulated in the press and on social media showed a man wearing the uniform and medals of a high-ranking navy officer whilst in attendance at the wreath-laying service in Llandudno on 9 November.

He will appear at Caernarfon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 11 December.

Ch Insp Trystan Bevan said: “We understand that this incident has caused significant public concern, particularly given its occurrence on Remembrance Sunday.

“In response to the reports made to North Wales Police, officers have responded swiftly to make an arrest and proceed with charges.

“We urge members of the public to avoid online speculation and to refrain from sharing any content that could compromise future court proceedings.”
