Lewiston issues fireworks safety reminders amid dry conditions

LEWISTON, Idaho — The City of Lewiston is urging residents to prioritize safety as they celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks, especially given the current dry conditions.

The city has adopted a zero-tolerance policy for illegal fireworks and the unsafe use of legal ones.

Officials recommend several safety tips: attend professional fireworks shows, purchase fireworks from local sellers, light only one firework at a time, prevent children from lighting fireworks, use fireworks on smooth, flat surfaces, and keep a bucket of water nearby for emergencies.

The city warns that the use of illegal fireworks could lead to citations with penalties reaching up to $100 or six months in jail.

You can report illegal fireworks by contacting Lewiston Police.
