Beirut: Police in Lebanon on Saturday hunted down 44 escaped prisoners who had escaped from a detention center on the outskirts of Beirut, and called on locals to remain vigilant.
Despite tight security, 69 people broke into a detention facility near the presidential palace in Babada, east of Beirut, a police statement said.
Five people were killed in a car accident when they lost control of a stolen vehicle and crashed into a tree. Another was taken to hospital.
By early Saturday afternoon, 15 had been captured, and four more had left themselves behind, fleeing with 44 runs.
