June M. Chow away from Disney + series ‘Willow’
John M. Chow is stepping down as director of the Disney + series “Willow” due to time constraints, the filmmaker announced on Instagram on Monday. “I am heartbroken to tell you all that I unfortunately had to part ways with Willow’s direction,” he wrote. “The production schedule is running in the UK due to the continuous lockdown, and the time to come (surprise!) With a new baby this summer is not just for me and my family.” In October, it was announced that Disney + 1988 had given the green light to the original Lucas Film and Ron Howard sequels to “Willow”. Chu signed on to direct the pilot. Howard is the executive producer of the project, which features solo writers Jonathan Casdan and Wendy Merkel. Caitlin Kennedy, Michelle Rajon, Cho, Cassden, Merkel, Howard and Imagine will serve as executive producers of television. Hannah Friedman as co-executive producer. The original film’s author, Bob Doleman, will be working with Julia Cooperman as a producer and consultant.
