KARACHI: An administrative judge of anti-terrorism courts on Monday jailed 13 accused in connection with the attack on the headquarters of Geo News and Jang Media Group in Karachi. According to video recordings of the incident, the four protesters who had gathered nearby became violent and broke the walk-through gate in addition to breaking into the entrance of the building. At the beginning of the hearing, the investigating officer produced the accused before an administrative judge and remanded them in custody for 14 days for questioning. The IO said Mushtaq Sarki, the alleged ringleader of the attackers, was still at large and the suspects needed to be interrogated to find his whereabouts. However, the judge rejected the police request and sent all the accused to jail and ordered to present the charge sheet to the IO at the next hearing. The FIR was registered at Methadar police station under sections 147, 148, 149, 324, 342, 427 and 506-B of the Pakistan Penal Code read along with section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. Although 150 to 200 assailants were named in the FIR, police arrested 13 of them after registering an FIR at Methadar police station on a complaint by Geo News and Jang’s security supervisor. Several provisions of the Anti-Terrorism Act, attempted murder and damage to property were also included in the FIR.
