Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz vs. Lamont Roach live results, round-by-round updates, ring walks for PBC card

Uncrowned has Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz vs. Lamont Roach live results, round-by-round updates, highlights, ring walks and start time for the Cruz vs. Roach fight card on Saturday night at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas. Former Gervonta Davis opponents, Isaac Cruz and Lamont Roach, clash for Cruz’s WBC interim super lightweight title in the night’s 12-round main event.

Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) is the current WBA super featherweight champion — although he will lose that title the second he enters the ring on Saturday. Roach claimed his belt with a split decision win over Hector Luis Garcia in November 2023. He moved up to challenge Davis for his WBA lightweight crown in March, where he was forced to settle for a majority decision draw amid significant controversy.

Mexico’s Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) also extended Davis the 12-round distance, losing a close decision in December 2021. Cruz stopped Rolando “Rolly” Romero, the current WBA welterweight champion, to win the WBA super lightweight title in March 2024, but then lost the belt to Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela in his next fight. Cruz has picked up two wins since that defeat and now fights for a third time in 2025.

O’Shaquie Foster (23-3, 12 KOs) and Stephen Fulton (23-1, 8 KOs) clash for the vacant WBC interim lightweight title in the night’s co-feature. WBC super featherweight champion Foster was supposed to defend his title against WBC featherweight champion Fulton, but Fulton missed weight at the official weigh-in. In a shocking 11th-hour call, the fight was moved to lightweight and awarded an interim title.

Isaac Lucero had a great finish to the seventh frame, landing four consecutive right hands on Roberto Valeznuela Jr. to end the round. Lucero seems to be dictating the action now and has sustained success with combinations and pressure, although Valenzuela is still dangerous with his work and is catching Lucero on the inside. They continue to exchange combinations in an all-action fight.

Roberto Valenzuela Jr might be doing the better work on the inside. Isaac Lucro chose to fight him up close and go toe-to-toe with the veteran, but perhaps not to his advantage. Valenzuela found a home for uppercuts on the inside and outworked Lucero in Round 3. Although Lucero had his moments and was more accurate, Valenzuela’s work looked better to the eye. A nice right hand in the fourth caught Lucero as well. Lucero is targeting the body. Great back-and-forth action!

After being 10-8 behind after three minutes, Valenzuela made a sound recovery in Round 2. He had consistent success on the inside, particularly with the left uppercut and short hooks.

It’s a first-round knockdown for Isaac Lucero, who drops Roberto Valenzuela Jr in the final minute with a short, chopping right. There were some complaints from Valenzuela that he was pushed down, but it was counted as a knockdown, and it’s a 10-8 round for Lucero. Replay shows that the punch was behind the head and therefore should not have been a knockdown.

Isaac Lucero (17-0, 13 KOs) and Roberto Valenzuela Jr. (31-5, 29 KOs) clash over 10 rounds at super welterweight.

  • Luis Reynaldo Nunez beats Hector Andres Sosa by unanimous decision (98-92, 97-93, 96-94) in their ten-round featherweight contest.

Nunez walked Sosa into powerful uppercuts and left hooks in the seventh frame. The lead left hook momentarily stunned Sosa in the final minute of that frame, and the counter uppercut has worked well for Nunez, too. Sosa will keep coming forward but the quality work is coming from Nunez.

Hector Sosa was told in the corner in between Rounds 4 and 5 that he needed to turn up the heat — and he did just that.

Sosa’s volume-punching was brilliant in the fifth frame, forcing Nunez to work at a very hard pace. Sosa’s body punches and combination-punching forced a response from Nunez, who — to his credit — did so well with short combinations.

Nunez is doing a terrific job with his left jab. The punch is allowing him to keep Sosa at range, and Sosa cannot break the distance. He ends up swinging with the right and missing wildly. Nunez’s left hook upstairs is connecting too, due to Sosa’s square stance. Nunez is controlling the tempo of the contest with his jab, but could be doing more in the way of combinations.

Janibek Alimkhanuly was scheduled to fight Erislandy Lara in a 3-belt middleweight title unification on tonight’s card, but Alimkhanuly tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance in a VADA test, it was revealed on fight week.

Lara will now defend his WBA title against Johan Gonzalez on the card instead

The O’Shaquie Foster vs. Stephen Fulton matchup was supposed to be for the WBC super featherweight crown. However, Fulton missed weight at Friday’s official weigh-in, tipping the scales at 132 pounds.

In a shocking last-minute move, it will now be for the WBC interim lightweight title (135 pounds).

Seconds after being hit with a left hand, Davis took a knee in the opening minute of the ninth. He later said that he did so to go back to his corner and wipe his eye because grease from his braids was bothering him. The lightweight champion didn’t give Willis any prior warning that he was going to do it, yet still no knockdown was counted. Willis began to administer a count but inexplicably stopped.

There are no breaks in boxing, and therefore, Davis’ impromptu kneel-down should’ve been counted as a knockdown.
