Police in the Djikot area of Faisalabad on Thursday allegedly opened fire on a youth and injured three others when they failed to stop at a check post.
Officers told the victims to stop at the checkpoint but they left, according to details. In response, police opened fire on the vehicle, killing one person and injuring three others.
The body and injured were shifted to a local hospital.
As a result of the incident, the families of the victims burnt tires and protests and riots broke out in the area. Four policemen were arrested after the incident and an investigation was launched.
A report of the incident has been lodged against the four officers following a complaint by the victim’s brother, police said.
According to the report, the vehicle ran over the fingers of ASI Shahid Rasool and the victim fled in fear when the police officers pulled out their guns.
Police chased and stopped the car and shot Waqas on the spot, read the report.
