Idaho Falls to Weber State

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho volleyball team lost to Weber State in three sets, 14-25, 20-25, 16-25, Thursday night in Memorial Gym.

Zuzanna Wieczorek clinched her fifth match with 10 or more kills with 12. She also added four digs, one assist and one ace. Miya Carmichael added 17 assists and two aces to secure her fifth match in a row with double-digit assists and eighth overall.

Freshman Ada Isik led the Idaho defense with 13 digs, achieving her fifth match of the season with 10 or more digs.

The Wildcats won the first set, 25-14. Weber State started the set off strong with a 5-0 spurt. Idaho got within one (5-6) but that’s the closest they would come in the set as Weber went on a 5-0 run and later scored 10 of the final 14 points to win the frame. The Vandals recorded 11 kills with a .207 hitting percentage while the Wildcats had 12 kills with a .409 hitting percentage.

Weber State earned a 25-20 second set win. Idaho showed resilience in the second set, keeping the score tied at 11-11 midway through the frame. After WSU used a 5-0 run to make it 16-11, the Vandals responded by scoring the next four to make it a one-point match. Idaho would eventually tie it (17-17) but couldn’t break through as Weber closed out the set with the final four points.

Weber State claimed the final set 25-16. A 6-0 Wildcat start put the Vandals in an early hole but Idaho generated a comeback to make it a one-point match (10-11) behind a 10-5 surge. Weber State scored ten consecutive points to secure a 3-0 victory.

The Vandals will be back in Memorial Gym on Saturday, Oct. 19 to host in-state rival Idaho State at 6 p.m. Fans attending Saturday’s Vandal football game can show their ticket at the volleyball game for free entry into the match.
