Idaho Falls hosting annual Clean and Green Citywide Cleanup

The following is a news release from the city of Idaho Falls.

IDAHO FALLS — The city of Idaho Falls will assist residents with spring clean-up efforts during the annual Clean and Green Citywide Cleanup beginning May 1.

Sanitation Division and Code Enforcement staff will be available the first four weekends in May at different locations in Idaho Falls to help collect and dispose of unwanted items. This includes household solid waste, brush, construction waste and bulk items.

“This service provides residents with the option to simply toss most of their unwanted items,” said Idaho Falls Sanitation Superintendent Jordan Rechenmacher. “We know spring cleaning can be a chore, so our sanitation and city code enforcement staff will lend a hand to our residents by helping them sort out waste items appropriately while offering the convenience of a one-stop drop location.”

During the Clean and Green event, unwanted items will be collected between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the following locations:

  • May 1 to 3 – Old Butte Maintenance Shed, and Canyon Avenue and Science Center Drive
  • May 8 to 10 – Freeman Park and the Wes Diest Aquatic Center
  • May 15 to 17 – Vernon Avenue and Waid Street Sweeper Dump, and Elva Street and Royal Avenue
  • May 22 to 24 – Mel Erickson Park Parking Lot and the end of Tyra Drive near Stace Street

Certain types of waste, such as metal, hazardous waste, tires, or large appliances, are required to be disposed of differently. Idaho Falls Sanitation staff are unable to accept these limited items; however, appropriate disposal locations are listed below.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE

The Bonneville County Transfer Station, located at 2455 Hemmert Avenue, will collect and safely dispose of household hazardous waste on May 10. Accepted items include paint thinner, batteries, fertilizer, fuels, and antifreeze.

METAL, LARGE APPLIANCES, TIRES

Metal and large appliances without Freon can be brought to Pacific Recycling or the Bonneville County Transfer Station.

Tires and large appliances with Freon can be brought to the Bonneville County Transfer Station for a fee.

DEMOLITION MATERIAL

All demolition material must be disposed of at the Bonneville County Hatch Pit.

ELECTRONIC RECYCLING

The Idaho National Laboratory and E Cyclers of Idaho will host several electronic waste collection events at the Idaho Falls Public Library. Participants can bring unwanted e-waste materials to the library drop-off location. We will ensure these items get recycled and processed in an environmentally safe manner. A free collection event will be May 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Idaho Falls Public Library.
