I’m a donut girl. It’s not uncommon for me to swing by a donut shop after a visit to the gym (I know!) or even while completing errands. That’s why, when I heard a new donut shop — Amazing Glaze Donuts — was opening in Idaho Falls, Idaho, I let out a squeal of joy. Amazing Glaze Donuts already had two stores in Pocatello (one on Cedar Street and the other on Idaho State University’s campus), and it is extremely popular. In fact, it’s not uncommon for this donut shop to sell out on any given day. Social media went crazy with the news about this new Idaho Falls donut shop and I was right there with them. And, I’m excited to say that when I tried Amazing Glaze Donuts for the first time, I quickly understood why it is such a loved Idaho bakery.
Amazing Glaze Donuts is a family-owned and operated donut shop that has been making delicious baked goods for years. This bakery is unique because the donuts are made using real Idaho potatoes … yes, potatoes! This vegetable helps make the donuts fluffy and moist.
The staff peels dozens of potatoes each day to create a truly special and delicious product. Because of the extra work, it takes several hours to create a single batch. Fortunately, a batch makes several dozen donuts.
Amazing Glaze is not only known for using potatoes in its creations but also for its variety. This Idaho bakery specializes in glazed rings, maple bars, Bavarian-cream-filled donuts, and fritters. The selection of donuts changes from day to day, and typically, there are several dozen options to choose from daily.
The new Amazing Glaze location in Idaho Falls is found at 2299 East 17th Street. It officially opened its doors in October 2024 and locals were certainly excited. When I drove by early one morning, just days after its opening, the line inside was extremely long. However, I’ve discovered these donuts are well worth the wait.
When I visited for the first time, I brought along my daughter and husband to help me make my selections. We choose 12 different flavors ranging from huckleberry-flavored ring donuts to an apple fritter to an old-fashioned donut. My five-year-old daughter quickly devoured the strawberry ring donut and my husband wished we would have chosen more fritters. My personal favorite was a square, French Toast donut, a specialty donut with a delicious whipped topping. The donuts we chose were all soft, flavorful, and beautifully made. My entire family was very impressed.
Amazing Glaze Donuts also offers several options when purchasing your donuts. Of course, you can purchase a single donut, but you can also choose from an Amazing Dozen, which features six rings and six premium donuts (bismarks, fritters, bars, etc.) of your choice. There are options to create your own dozen, where you have no limitations, as well as options to choose from a dozen ring-only donuts, half dozen, and more.
And while I went in focused on the donuts, there is so much more available at Amazing Glaze Donuts including coffee — which is made with locally sourced milk and espresso beans — and a variety of specialty drinks. There is hot tea, iced coffee, Italian sodas, smoothies, and more.
I’ve also been told that the handmade cinnamon rolls with maple cream cheese icing are an absolute must and you won’t be able to stop with just one. I have an upcoming trip planned and I can’t wait to take a bite of one.
Amazing Glaze Donuts was welcomed to Idaho Falls with a lot of excitement and after tasting several of their donuts, I can easily see why. This is an Idaho donut shop where I’m proud to say that I’m turning into a regular.
