The Higher Education Commission on Monday asked the government to increase its budget as it is facing problems due to lack of funds.
During a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Education, HEC officials said the agency did not receive the full amount allocated in the budget.
The meeting was chaired by Mian Najeeb-ud-Din Owaisi while lawmakers Andelib Abbas, Wajiha Akram and others attended.
Stressing that the budget has not been amended, HEC officials maintained that universities have repeatedly asked for grants. “Where will we get the money for the grant?”
The commission has urged the standing committee to ask the federal government to increase its budget.
Briefing the committee about online classes, HEC officials said that out of 118,331 courses, 113,614 are now taught online.
