PESHAWAR: The Jamaat-e-Islami on Saturday moved an adjournment motion in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to address the concerns of University of Peshawar (MOP) employees over the payment of half of their salaries. January due to financial crisis.
Inayatullah Khan, parliamentary leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami in the provincial assembly, moved a motion for adjournment to discuss the issue of salaries of university employees.
A notification issued by the UOP Registrar’s Office said that due to financial constraints, the university could not pay its employees in full in January and they would be paid only basic and personal salaries. The adjournment motion said that in a situation where the nationwide outbreak of COVID-19 had severely affected daily life and created severe financial hardships for the people, the decision of the university administration had resulted in the death of employees. There will be trouble.
The motion said that the Chief Minister should inform the House about the facts and the financial crisis of the university. The University of Peshawar Teachers Association (POTA) also expressed concern over the notification, saying it was completely unwarranted. PUTA President Dr. Fazal Nasir immediately issued the notification. He later called an emergency meeting and said that it was the responsibility of the state and the government to provide basic services to the people, including education and health.
