Eighteen Iraqis were killed in a series of jihadist raids overnight

BAGHDAD: Security sources told AFP that most of the military personnel, 18 Iraqis, the majority of military personnel, were killed overnight in separate jihadist attacks in the Baghdad area between Friday and Saturday night.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attacks, but they are according to Modus Aparendi of the Islamic State group, which has sleeper cells despite its defeat in Iraq in 2017.

One attack targeted troops in the agricultural suburb of Tarimia, 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of the Iraqi capital.

A security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said IS militants attacked an Iraqi army convoy at night, killing two officers and two soldiers.
