Cairo: Egypt’s self-proclaimed superstar Mohammed Ramzan has sparked a heated political debate after taking selfies with an Israeli singer and footballer.
Ramzan, a 32-year-old actor and rapper who is proud of millions of followers in the Arab world, is a close friend of King Mohammed VI of Morocco and a recipient of the 2019 All Africa Music Award. On Saturday, the State of Israel’s official Facebook page in Arabic linked to the Foreign Ministry posted a picture of Ramadan on the roof of Dubai, embracing Israeli singer Omar Adam.
The picture is titled “Art always brings us together”. A short video clip also surfaced on social media showing Ramadan meeting with fans and ringing in the background of the popular Jewish folk song “Hova Nagila”.
