Did someone just get caught using the iPhone 17 Pro in the wild?

Here’s one to take with a grain of salt: earlier today, user Fox Puppy on X published a couple of photos that supposedly show someone filming an iPhone 17 Pro on the street, using an iPhone 16 Pro that, for some reason, has its Apple logo covered.

‘This looks legit’

While there’s no way to verify the claims, Fox Puppy says that one of the people accompanying the man filming “was security and trying to go in front of the iPhone to hide it.”

Here’s the original post:

In both photos, the iPhone is clearly inside a thick black case, so no other hardware details are visible, apart from apparently swhiilver camera rings to the left, and the relocated LiDAR sensor and flash to the right, on the back of the iPhone in the first image. These positions are consistent with the mockups and leaks from the last few months.

Adding to the “who knows?” of it all, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman quote-tweeted the photo, saying “This looks legit”, which quickly sparked another round of speculation, as some questioned whether he was being sarcastic.

Be that as it may, while we’ll probably never know the full story behind today’s sighting, the image (whether it shows a mockup in a content creator’s hands or a real production unit caught in the wild) only adds to the anticipation, with the next iPhones now just weeks away from their official debut.

Do you think this was the real thing? Let us know in the comments.
