ISLAMABAD: An important meeting is underway at the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) to review the latest situation of Covid 19 and the closure of schools and weather in light of the growing infection among students and their teachers. Decide on an early winter vacation.
Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar is presiding over the meeting at the NCOC. Dr. Faisal Sultan and Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood were also present on the occasion.
Participants will be briefed on the epidemic situation in the country through the Ministry of National Health Services and the NCOC.
After the NCOC meeting, the education ministers will meet and finalize the recommendations before making a final decision.
On Sunday, Shafqat Mahmood said that “all decisions” regarding the closure of schools would be announced on Monday amid growing cases of coronavirus in Pakistan.
“For all those awaiting the outcome of tomorrow’s inter-provincial ministerial meeting: I will hold a press conference at 12:30 pm after the meeting,” he wrote.
The government has yet to decide whether schools will be closed again in the wake of the second wave of corona virus cases.
A day earlier, Mahmoud had said his ministry would propose closing schools at the next meeting of the country’s education minister from November 25.
The Inter-Provincial Ministerial Education Conference (IPEMC) was held last Monday to review the deteriorating coronavirus situation in the country but could not take a decision on the closure of schools and will take up the matter till the next meeting. Deferred
Speaking on Geo News program “Jirga” on Saturday, Mahmood said: “All education ministers will meet on November 23.”
“We are recommending online education,” he said, adding that teachers would come to the school and keep in touch with students.
Mahmood said that in those educational institutions where online education facilities are not available, students will one day come to school and do their homework.

Punjab Education Minister Murad Rass has said he will make a “wise” decision regarding the province’s educational institutions, as “life is the most important”.
As cases of the corona virus increase and the government discontinues strategies to curb the spread of the virus, the education minister said he would make a decision based on the data.

After a meeting with Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani, chaired by key stakeholders of the provincial education department, the education and literacy department has decided not to close schools at this time or hold winter holidays this year.
