Gilgit: Counting of votes has started in GBA-3 constituency of Gilgit-Baltistan after polling ended at 5 pm on Sunday.
Polling continued uninterrupted throughout the day as a large number of people cast their votes in Gilgit despite the cold weather.
Strict security measures were taken at all the polling stations in the constituency on this occasion.
Due to the death of PTI candidate Jaffar Shah, elections could not be held on November 15 in this constituency along with all other constituencies.
In the elections held for 23 out of 24 constituencies on this day, PTI won nine seats and independent candidates won seven seats while PPP and PML-N won three and two seats respectively. Meanwhile, JUI-F and MWM won one seat each.
The PTI is in a position to form its own government in Gilgit-Baltistan after six successful independent candidates joined the party.
Recount in GBA-21 Geyser III
Meanwhile, unofficial, preliminary results show that the PML-N candidate has won the GBA-21 Ghazir III constituency in Gilgit-Baltistan, where the recount took place.
Unofficial results show that PML-N candidate Ghulam Muhammad has won with 4,908 votes.
Muhammad Ayub Shah of PPP came second with 4,000 votes.
Shah had requested a recount of the entire constituency’s votes after miscreants picked up ballot boxes from the Gandai polling station.
Returning Officer GBA-21 Arif Hussain said that the votes of the entire constituency would be counted by tomorrow.
The Returning Officer added that the official results would be announced only after the recount was completed.
