CM Punk wins world heavyweight title

When Seth Rollins suffered a shoulder injury bad enough to require surgery, WWE had no choice but to strip him of the world heavyweight championship. The decision was made to hold a battle royal to see who would square up with CM Punk to determine a new champion at tonight’s (Sat., Nov. 1, 2025) Saturday Night’s Main Event special at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Jey Uso emerged victorious in that match.

They were given the main event slot and roughly 20 minutes to decide a new champion.

They did much better with it than anyone could have reasonably expected.

To be clear, they were heavily reliant on curiosity over the finish but that ended up working well in its favor. That’s what gave the extra pop for Uso rolling out of the ring after the first GTS and Punk kicking out of the Spear and Splash combo.

It’s what made the next near fall even better, with Punk getting the knees up for the next Splash attempt and then following up with a GTS that got so very, very close to three. It’s how he earned this match, after all. What a tease!

Jey got desperate enough that he broke out a GTS.

Punk responded with a Spear.

The actual finish was a wild back and forth of reversals, from a GTS to a sleeper to the Anaconda Vice to a roll up for a shockingly close two. Finally, Punk actually did get the GTS back-to-back, and that did the trick.

CM Punk is your world heavyweight champion once more.
