IDAHO FALLS — Calakas Tacos and Miches owners are hosting a Cinco de Mayo event this Sunday for the first time.
The event is open and will start at noon at the Waterfront on the Snake River Landing. The Waterfront is located at 1220 Event Center Drive.
Co-owner Liliana Sanchez told EastIdahoNews.com there will be music, vendors, food trucks, dances, a mechanical bull, a truck and car show, a quinceañera dress show, and a raffle with Downtown Bridal and Dress Shop.

Liliana and her husband, Mito Sanchez, have been hosting events in Idaho Falls for the past 20 years but have always wanted to host their Cinco de Mayo event.
Mito said he has wanted to do something different and better than what’s been done since he was younger and going to this event.
He said they had attempted to do a Cinco de Mayo about 15 years ago, but it snowed.
They joked that they chose to host the event at The Waterfront in case it rained, as this event often gets rained on.
“It’s a characteristic of the day. It has to rain a little bit,” Liliana said.
Depending on the weather, they plan to have some of the vendors outside and inside and open the stage.
Discussing the event’s entertainment, four bands will play throughout the day: Nueva Generacion 2000, Alvaro y su Technobanda Vallarta, Blanco Perfecto and Los Beristain’s.
The truck and car show will feature over 100 cars, and Mito said 30 awards will be given out.
Mito and Liliana anticipate a decent showing, with the weather forecast clear of any rain or snow. Liliana hopes to see around 3,000 community members pass through the event.
Maria Alvarez, founder and CEO of Conectate, said Cinco de Mayo, while it allows Latinos to share their culture, has become a common holiday for everyone in the United States.
She said many Latinos don’t celebrate it that much but offer the community a day to come together.
