LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has said that the PDM should remember the results of the no-confidence motion in the Senate before taking this step against Prime Minister Imran Khan. Talking to party delegations on Sunday, the governor said that the opposition which failed outside the parliament would also fail inside the parliament. The governor said that the PDM has as many statements as the parties. He added that there was no question of a mid-term election.
The governor said the PDM leaders who wanted to launch a no-confidence motion against the government lacked mutual trust and were in fact suspicious of each other. “There is no such thing as unity in the opposition and they are only trying to protect their political interests,” he said.
Chaudhry Sarwar said that it was the same PDM who had announced his resignation from the assemblies on January 31, but then these people were not sticking to their word and there was a clear division among them on the issue of Long March. Therefore, I am sure that the opposition alliance which cannot resign and cannot march will not be able to bring a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan. The opposition must remember the outcome of its no-confidence motion against the Senate chairman.
The governor said that Prime Minister Imran Khan had taken a principled stand against corruption and he would not back down from it. Following the government’s success on economic and other fronts, opposition parties have failed to understand how they can survive politically. The opposition has no choice but to accept the government’s mandate.
Chaudhry Sarwar said that the general elections would be held only after the expiration of the constitutional term of the government. Completing the constitutional term is the democratic right of the PTI government. He further said that the government has saved Pakistan from economic bankruptcy with its successful economic policies.
