‘Carry-On’ Director Jaume Collet-Serra Signs Overall Deal at Netflix

Acclaimed director Jaume Collet-Serra has signed a multi-year deal to produce and direct films at Netflix.

The streamer does not hand out overall agreements often, especially for features, but the news comes as no surprise. Collet-Serra helmed Netflix’s second highest viewed movie of all time in “Carry-On,” starring Jason Bateman and Taron Egerton. Released in 2024, the film has been viewed 185 million times, according Netflix’s data.

The first film in the new partnership is the psychological thriller “An Innocent Girl,” about a young and ambitious woman seduced by a high powered D.C. couple who draw her into a dangerous world of sex, power and murder. Collet-Serra will direct and produce the project alongside Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.

“From production to release, my experience making ‘Carry-On’ with the Netflix team was everything a filmmaker could hope for,” Collet-Serra told Variety. “I’m thrilled to call Netflix my creative home and excited to keep pushing boundaries together, beginning with ‘An Innocent Girl.’”

Netflix film vice president Doug Belgrad called Collet-Serra “one of the most in-demand directors out there right now, and for good reason — he knows how to deliver big, high-stakes stories that audiences love. The fact that he chose to make this deal with us, especially after the great experience we had together on ‘Carry-On,’ says a lot. He’s never been hotter, and we look forward to keeping that momentum going with him.”

Previous Collet-Serra films include the Disney tentpole “Jungle Cruise,” genre releases like “Orphan” and “The Shallows,” and pot-boilers like “Non-Stop.” He is repped by LBI and Yorn Levine.
