Tbilisi: Georgia’s ruling party’s billionaire leader, Bedzina Enish Valley, widely regarded as the most powerful man in the Western-backed country, announced on Monday that she was leaving politics.
Ivanishili made the announcement after his Georgian dream party claimed a landslide victory in last year’s hard-line parliamentary elections that sparked protests. “My mission is complete,” the country’s richest man said in a statement.
“I have finally decided to step down from politics and completely distance myself from the reins of power.” Ivanishili said he was stepping down as party chairman before his 65th birthday next month, and that it was time to “put the youth first.”
“I’m going back to my pre-2011 private lifestyle,” he said. Georgia held parliamentary elections in October and November, but protests erupted after the first round and the opposition boycotted the second round.
