Get ready to hear “Wonderwall”: Oasis‘ highly anticipated reunion tour is finally here.
The pioneering Britpop band’s world tour — marking the first time famously feuding brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher have played together since 2009 — kicked off on Friday night in Cardiff, Wales, at Principality Stadium. Richard Ashcroft from the Verve was the opening act, alongside Liverpool-based band Cast.
The Manchester-bred band’s last album was 2008’s “Dig Out Your Soul,” and it remains to be seen if they’ll debut any new music on this tour. Last year, Oasis celebrated the 30th anniversary of their seminal debut album “Definitely Maybe,” and this October will mark 30 years since the release of “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?,” which propelled the group to global stardom with songs like “Wonderwall,” “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” “Some Might Say,” “She’s Electric” and “Champagne Supernova.” It seems likely the band will play all of these hits during the more than two hours they’ve carved out for their set, but with the Gallagher brothers, you never know.
After two dates in Cardiff, Oasis will stop in Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin before heading to North America in August. There, the band will play Toronto, Canada; East Rutherford, N.J.; Chicago, Ill.; Los Angeles, Calif.; and Mexico City, Mexico before returning to London for two more Wembley Stadium dates in September. They will then tour in South Korea, Japan, Australia, Argentina, Chile and Brazil.
Tickets for the reunion tour sold out immediately, causing another row between music fans and Ticketmaster as complaints were raised about dynamic pricing and nefarious resellers. As a result, an investigation was launched into Ticketmaster by the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority and 50,000 tickets that were resold on secondary markets were canceled.
