Maxxine Dupri’s family was in the house at Madison Square Garden in New York for this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, where she would again challenge Becky Lynch for the Intercontinental championship. Her story is one of an unexpected rise she worked as hard as possible to pay off by training and showing improvement all along the way.
It led her to multiple title shots and a program with a star on the level of Lynch. It culminated in her winning the title with the assist of another big star in the division, the returning AJ Lee.
There’s a lot of history here all around, but Lee’s return — significant for it being the first we’ve seen her since a victory over Lynch & Seth Rollins at Wrestlepalooza in September — should not overshadow the significance of Dupri’s achievement here. It didn’t feel one bit like a victory she didn’t earn.
