KARACHI: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has appointed Eugene Zukov as Director General of its Central and West Asia Regional Department, effective immediately.
As Director General, Zukov will lead ADB’s engagement with 10 countries in the region: Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The ADB said in a statement that it would monitor the bank’s regional portfolio of 24 24 billion.
Djokov will manage offices in 10 countries and 7 sector divisions: energy; Environment, natural resources, and agriculture. Public Administration, Finance, and Trade; Regional Cooperation and Operations Coordination; social; Transportation and communication; And urban development and water, he added.
He will also oversee ADB’s involvement with the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program, an 11-member partnership to promote economic growth and sustainable development through cooperation.
“Central and West Asia has undergone tremendous changes in recent decades, and while there is great potential for continued growth, our immediate focus is on resolving the effects of CoVID-19,” Zhukov said. “ADB will continue to work with governments and development partners in the region to promote economic recovery, develop transport corridors, promote renewable energy, and build competitive and inclusive economies.”
Zukov has more than 25 years of experience at ADB, which he joined in 1995 as a young professional. Later, Zukov was the overseer of ADB’s department, intervening with the bank’s board of directors and management, arranging board meetings, and arranging ADB’s annual meetings. The largest gathering of high-level decision-makers on economic and development issues in Asia and the Pacific.
